A while back on Facebook, I did a post on robots with pigment and ethnic identities, featuring the robot BINA. I thought she was a David Hanson project but I found out differently. Last night, I was watching "Joe Rogan Questions Everything", on the Syfy Network. He sat down and interviewed the robot - robosapien, BINA.
While I was taking the standpoint that this technology is quite interesting and neato, Joe spins it into the FEAR FACTOR - I guess it works for ratings. The video is here.I hate that the media tried to make us fear technology when there are such great benefits to mankind with the evolution of technology. While I do not like the idea of the human and the robot merging. I do think that there are endless benefits to technology among us that we control. I do not view it as a psychotic endeavor to become gods but I do see it as a way to free up our time and energy for more important things in life that matter more than working, like family time.
I wrote an article about how time is the killer of hopes and dreams about a decade ago. I was in the mindset then, that technology has taken us to new heights of dysfunction because we are always having to keep up with it. Technology has created the way for employers to increase workloads and increase hours at work. This took away time from the family. I now think that new technology can do that direct opposite thing. We can use technology, like robotics, to free up a lot of time. Just think, if you had a robot that could do your house cleaning for you, how much more family time that would free up. You could have one that does your cooking, that could be 20 minute to four hours per meal you get back in a day (depending on how much you cook and what you are cooking). I think robots could be a bonus for the family. Robots could tutor children in education - I am not saying to replace humans with robots at all, but I totally see where they could add free time to our lives.
I often think about why people date on the internet. I think a lot of that has to do with not having the time to go out and meet people. Where people have used technology to hook up on the internet with someone who is technically a robot until you meet them, because unless you are really connecting with a human body, that person is technically your computer lover until you meet. I often laugh at that. I know plenty of people that marry people they internet date. What is the difference in inserting robots into our lives to aide in freeing up time?
If you watch this video, you will see where they speak of the merging of man and machine - for me, though it sounds neat, I am not really excited about that. I know that they can go in a lab and build manufactured body parts to save the lives of people and extensions of limbs for those who do not have them, but I don't like the idea of being chipped at all. We do walk around with GPS tracking devices on our bodies, but I just don't like the thought of any type of technology inside of my actual body. I hope that always remains optional, I choose not to have that ever. I don't even like medication, I could not imagine having anything inserted into my body.
